Seymour Gale is a peaceful fellow who keeps things on an even keel at the offices of his Seymour Gale & Associates import-export firm at 117 W. 9th Street. Life hasn’t always been so peaceful for Gale, though. He served in the 82nd Airborne Division of the U.S. Army during World War II, when he and his comrades were among the first to land at Normandy during the D-Day invasion on June 6, 1944. Gale had some experience by then—he also saw action during earlier invasions of North Africa, Sicily, and Italy. Gale thinks of his comrades—including one brother who helped liberate Nazi concentration camps in Europe, and another who saw action in both World War II and Korea—when June 6 rolls around each year. He says he hopes that everyone else does, too, keeping in mind all of the veterans who have served the U.S., including those currently in combat in Iraq and Afghanistan.
