David Amico’s art work has been exhibited all over the world, and he recently became an associate professor at Claremont Graduate School, located about 30 miles east of Downtown. He also has an exhibit of his art work on display at American Contemporary Exhibitions (ACE) over in Beverly Hills on the Westside. Amico has long and strong ties to Downtown, though, a history that goes back for three decades. These days Amico lives in a loft on the border of the Little Tokyo and Skid Row districts, close to where he once worked as a bartender, back in the days before his art brought worlwide recognition. The gallery in Beverly Hills is showing Amico’s work along with pieces from several other artists who were pioneers in the Arts District and other parts of Downtown long before the latest trend of residential redevelopment.
