Louise Capone is a senior recreation director for the Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks, overseeing Pershing Square at 5th & Hill. She’s more than that, too, thanks to her longstanding ties to the local music scene and various community groups. Those have helped Capone and her colleagues boost the lineup of programs at Pershing Square, bringing in top-notch musical acts for the Summer Concert Series, and launching “Movies Under the Stars,” which will feature outdoor screenings free of charge, starting at 8 p.m. on Friday nights through October 10. The movies are one of a number of additions that have moved Pershing Square’s programming toward a year-round schedule, with Downtown on Ice remaining the star of the winter season, the St. Patrick’s Day celebration highlighting spring, the Summer Concert Series, and now outdoor movies for fall. There’s also the new year-round Art Squared exhibit of works by local residents, a display that’s worth a visit to Pershing Square anytime.
