Rickie Shaw is a regular on the 800 block of S. Broadway, where he often has lunch at the counter of a diner called—appropriately enough—Small Place With Excellent Food. The native of Venezuela and retired clerical worker for the city is well-known in more than one neighborhood, too. He and his wife, Theresa, are longtime residents of the Boyle Heights district east of Downtown, where they are members of Resurrection Roman Catholic Church at 8th and Lorena streets. Shaw recently spent a good bit of time selling raffle tickets to raise funds for Resurrection’s 85th Anniversary Festival, which will happen on the parish grounds from June 5-7. He kept selling books of the tickets, and they kept giving him more to peddle. It’s all for a good cause, and Rickie sure did a fine job. So the Garment & Citizen congratulates him, and offers best wishes to all of the parishioners at Resurrection on their 85th anniversary.
