Sarice Brudet traces her ancestry to Holland, Indonesia, and the South American country of Surinam, and she lives in Germany. Brudet recently traveled all the way to Downtown, though, arriving in time for the debut of Iron Gallery at 725 S. Los Angeles Street. It’s a good thing she did, too, because her abstract paintings are engaging works of art—just the stuff to launch the chic new exhibit space. The Iron Gallery had been a menswear shop for years, but that business recently closed amid a downturn in the retail trade on Los Angeles Street. Both Brudet and the gallery offer reminders that there are plenty of property owners and entrepreneurs who are determined to work through the economic slump, finding new energy and ideas for local business (See related photo and caption, left; Commentary, home page).
