Memories are more than old facts—they’re also a matter of feelings and perspective. El Centro Del Pueblo, a non-profit social service provider in the Echo Park district northwest of Downtown, made room for memories during its Dia De Los Muertos festival on November 1. The event featured entertainment and vendors along with altars for community members to adorn with memories of loved ones who have passed away. The day comes right after Halloween, and is said to have roots in the Aztec civilization, with some of the Roman Catholic All Souls Day in the mix. It’s a day for memories, in any case—and it’s good to know that El Centro Del Pueblo is honoring old ones and creating new ones for the community.
