Richard Smith is a longtime resident of the Skid Row district of Downtown, where he does his best to look out for the community. Smith is part of the team at the United Coalition East Prevention Project (UCEPP), a non-profit organization that works on various challenges facing Skid Row residents, including ongoing efforts to cut down on the number of liquor stores in the neighborhood. Smith serves as editor of the organization’s newsletter, which offers folks reminders of the progress that community campaigns have made and also sounds alerts on future challenges. His colleagues at UCEPP recently honored him for his efforts during the organization’s annual Christmas Party, where a number of other staff members and volunteers were also recognized. The Garment & Citizen adds this recognition for Smith and the all of his colleagues.
