Angelus Plaza to Honor Chai, Perry & Sullivan at City View

Publish Date : 07/11/2008
Angelus Plaza has selected a Los Angeles City Councilmember, a distinguished medical professional, and the editor and publisher of the Garment & Citizen as honorees for its annual City View fundraiser, which is scheduled for September.

Proceeds from ticket sales, sponsorships and auctions to be held during the event will go toward “developing programs in the area of social services, education, transportation, creative arts and health via the Angelus Plaza Senior Activity Center,” according to officials of the residential complex, which is located at 255 S. Hill Street and claims the title of the “largest affordable housing community for older adults in the U.S.”

The Angelus Plaza Senior Activity Center is a social and service hub of the facility, serving residents as well as seniors living in surrounding communities.

The center “provides programs and services that emphasize the importance of continued learning and a healthy lifestyle in a safe and supportive environment,” according to Angelus Plaza officials.

9th District Los Angeles City Councilmember Jan Perry will join Dr. Alex Chai, who serves as medical director of the Tom Bradley Medical Center located at Angelus Plaza, and the Garment & Citizen’s Jerry Sullivan as honorees for the event.

All were selected because their professional efforts have “greatly benefited the elders served by the Angelus Plaza Senior Activity Center and the Downtown community,” according to Angelus Plaza officials.

Sullivan said he appreciates the recognition for the Garment & Citizen, which carries a weekly column for senior citizens (see Savvy Senior, home page) and keeps elderly readers in mind with coverage of stories and other events.

“I personally know members of the staff and the residential community at Angelus Plaza,” he said. “Together they have achieved a true sense of community, and I think it’s wonderful that so many individuals are able to enjoy the comforts of community and the benefits of a wide range of activities through those efforts.”

The City View event is scheduled for the evening of Thursday, September 25, on the promenade deck of Angelus Plaza. Cuisine from various Downtown restaurants will be served, along with cocktails and gourmet wines.
