Next Stop for Wine Lovers: Union Station

Vino y Comida: That’s the combination that will star at the 3rd Annual East L.A. Meets Napa celebration coming up at Union Station. The event will bring more than 20 Latino/American-owned wineries from Northern California together with a similar number of Latino/American-owned restaurants in Los Angeles. Together they will offer their best as part of an effort to highlight a trend that has a lot of food aficionados picking wine over margaritas or beer to go with Mexican fare (see related Dot Dot Dish item, home page). Organizers say they hope the event will encourage everyone to consider wine when sitting down for a meal of Mexican food. The event is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. on Friday, July 18 at Union Station, located at 800 N. Alameda Street. Jose Rizo’s Jazz on the Latin Side All Stars will provide musical entertainment. Tickets cost $125, and a portion of the proceeds will benefit AltaMed Health Services Corp., which seeks to “provide quality, culturally relevant healthcare to underserved populations throughout Southern California.” Call (323) 889-7317 for more information.
